All Broken Up About It

All Broken Up About It

All Broken Up About It (2002)

This image appears a little peppered...

I doubt the Veep shares the sentiments of the title.

If you want to break yourself up, surf over to firedoglake's DickFest -- a blog poetry festival about the life and times of His Dickness. It's much more literary than anything I could write today.

Apostrophe

"Apostrophe is talking about the dead as if it were still alive" - Leah Fowler.

Since you are the only one who has died
Tell us what it is like
Not to dance with the tribe
When your name is called
When the gongs are struck
And the prayer wheels spun
And women chased from the lamasery.

Since you are the only one who has died
Tell us what drew you to the other side
Not to join in communal hymns
When fresh fruit lies on the altar
When yak butter smears the lamasery doors
And the golden fleece hangs in the tower
To tempt ancient heroes from beyond the sea.

Since you are the only one who has died
Tell us why you abandoned the tribe
Not to wed your appointed bride
When your mother wails for grandchildren
When your father shames the wedding party
And refuses to stop scratching the hearth
For traces of your bones, teeth, and hair.

Since you are the only one who has died
Tell us what future awaits the tribe
Not that anyone can unsnap a wishbone
When deprivation makes poverty feel good
When sacrifice draws enemies together
And not even whirling dervishes explain
Why perfect silence is the best answer.
