Fly me to the moon
Fly me to a star
But there are no stars in the New York sky
They're all on the ground

Not a Portrait of Andy Warhol
This is not a face. It is the silence
Of a face becoming pure face.
It is what I look out of, daily,
Without being aware what I look like.
Except when reversed, as in a mirror,
Rarely do I know what anybody else sees.
I am not even sure that I can recognize
Myself when the film is projected before me.
All I see is the physical corpse that time
Ravaged then discarded as so many fallen leaves.
If I had to see myself this way, repeatedly,
I would go mad, for this is not how I am in the mind.
This is not how I am when I dream, either,
And, disembodied, watch my body in action.
This is, in fact, a misrepresentation of identity
Made by a representation of realism on film.
But film itself is an illusion, containing many gaps
Between each image I can see when I blink.
So I have learned, when watching myself as a star,
The only real way to see me is to blink continuously.
